What Happened When Jesus Died? A Fictional Firsthand Account

Mark Rubinstein

Let me tell you what happened when Jesus died.

He was the wisest, most godly, most charismatic person we had ever known. We left behind our work, our possessions, families, and friends to follow him. We trusted what Jesus told us—that the long-awaited Kingdom of Heaven was at hand and that he, God’s chosen instrument, was introducing it. He told us to prepare, to give up any pretentions of our own, and to subordinate ourselves to the needs of our mission. We must love one another, he told us, as all will in the Kingdom. He said we must go into the world to bring others this new understanding, for only those who joined with him would live joyfully in the Kingdom to come.
