Private Grief

Joanne Joseph

Private Grief, for someone close, too young

This is your lone atheist crouching
In her foxhole

Not so many of us, it appears

Goddammit to Hell, said Ernie Pyle

I say so too

Unacceptable your death to come so soon

You have prepared, and you accept

While I linger here
In the whereness

From which I do not ever

Call
